Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Driver Information - GF42.30-P-0003-05GG

Model 463

There is a system indicator lamp for ABS in the instrument cluster.

Switching on the ignition and starting the engine

When the ignition is switched on (ignition/starter switch position "2"), the ABS MIL (A1e17) comes on in the instrument cluster (bulb check) and goes out when the engine is running. If the ABS MIL (A1e17) comes on when the engine is running, there is a fault in the ABS. The system is inoperative, but the full braking effect of the brake system without anti-lock protection is maintained.

Driving without lock engaged

The system carries out a self-check after the journey commences.

The high-pressure/return pump in the hydraulic unit also starts up briefly (may be detectable at the brake pedal). If a fault is found in the process, the ABS MIL comes on again.

System faults which occur while driving also result in the ABS MIL coming on permanently.

If the ABS MIL comes on while driving and goes out again after some time, the cause is low battery voltage.

Driving with lock engaged

If a lock is activated, the ABS switches off. In addition, with the exception of models 463.308/330/331, ABS can also be switched off by a switch on the center console.
