Location 

The rear axle automatic adjusters are fastened at the rear axle (except model 461.392) or at the rear axles (model 461.392) on the lower right and left on the corresponding brake anchor plate.

Task 

Adjust the brake shoes according to the degree of wear.

Function 

During forward travel, the automatic adjuster adjusts the trailing shoe; during reverse travel, it adjusts the leading shoe. If the brake is not actuated, the adjustment is centered through the compression springs. If the brake is actuated during forward travel, the threaded bushings, the adjuster bushing and the adjusting screws are moved to the right. If a particular axial distance is exceeded, the adjusting pin engages in the next tooth of the adjuster bushing.

After the brake application is completed, the compression springs bring all moved parts back to starting position. In the process, the adjuster bushing and the threaded bushing connected to it through the driver are twisted. Through the force of the shoe springs at the brake shoes, the adjusting screw is restrained from getting twisted due to the thrust piece, thus making the adjustment larger. The automatic adjustment during reverse travel takes place in the same way as it does during forward travel, only in reverse direction.
