Windshield Washer, Function - GF82.35-P-3002GW
Model 463
as of model year 2013
Function requirements, general
- Circuit 15R On:
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6) (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), or the SAM control unit (N10) (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342).
Washing windshield, general
The windshield wash function is comprised of the following subfunctions:
- Washing function sequence
- Afterwiping function sequence
- Function sequence for interrupting washing during engine start
- Function sequence for wash stop (with code FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) or code FZ8 (Alarm system))
Washing function sequence
The washing function is activated by pressing the combination switch (S4) in axial direction beyond the detent point.
The steering column tube module control unit (N80) reads in the switch position of the combination switch directly and sends it as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342 over the suspension FlexRay (Flex E) or up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342 over suspension CAN 1 (CAN E1), the electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), or to the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342).
The front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) actuates the windshield washer system pump (M5/1).
As of 03.04.2018 and except model 463.342, the windshield washer system washer fluid level switch (S42) checks the fill level in the washer fluid reservoir. The windshield washer system washer fluid level switch is a so-called two-pin sensor that includes two metal pins that are surrounded by washing water when the washer fluid reservoir is full. A resistance measurement determines if the washer fluid level is too low. The resistance value is read in by the front SAM control unit. If the washer fluid level drops below the minimum, the front SAM control unit sends a request to issue a message over the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster (A1). The front SAM control unit continues to actuate the windshield washer system pump.
During washing, wiping takes place with the wiper speed set on the combination switch.
When the combination switch is in the rest position, wiping takes place with speed "3".
The washing function is interrupted under the following conditions or aborted after t = 15 s:
- Activation of the washer interruption function when the engine starts
- Activating wipe/stop function
- "Combination switch stuck" detection
Afterwiping function sequence
The afterwiping function is activated as soon as the combination switch is no longer activated.
The number of afterwipe cycles depends on the combination switch actuation time:
- Actuation time t < 200 ms: Afterwiping does not take place.
- Actuation time t < 1 s: Afterwiping takes place once.
- Actuation time t > 1 s: Afterwiping takes place three times.
As of 03.04.2018 and except model 463.342, the front SAM control unit sends the "extended wiping active" status over the rain and light sensor LIN (LIN B16) to the rain sensor (B38/2b1) in the rain and light sensor with additional functions (B38/2). Up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342, the SAM control unit sends the "extended wiping active" status over the roof -LIN (LIN B13) to the rain and light sensor (B38/2). Wiping requests from the rain/light sensor during afterwiping are ignored.
Afterwiping takes place with the wiper speed set on the combination switch.
When the combination switch is in the rest position, afterwiping takes place with speed "3".
The afterwiping function is interrupted or aborted under the following conditions:
- Activation of the washer interruption function when the engine starts
- Wiper motor (M6/1) blockage detection
- Activating wash function
- Activating wipe/stop function
Function sequence for interrupting washing during engine start
When the engine start the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) interrupts actuation of windshield washer system pump.
Any wiping procedure that has already started is terminated. To do so, the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) actuates the wiper motor directly.
The engine start is recognized by the transmission of the status of circuit 50. The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 50 over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or to the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342).
Function sequence for wash stop (with code FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) or code FZ8 (Alarm system))
If the hood is opened, the front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) stops actuation of the windshield washer system pump and the wiper motor whereupon all subsequent wipe and wash requests are ignored.
If the engine hood is closed, the windshield washer system pump can be actuated again. This is also possible if the engine hood is open and the vehicle speed exceeds v = 8 km/h.
The instrument cluster sends the vehicle speed and as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342 over the user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit or up to 02.04.2018 or for model 463.342 directly over the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.
The front SAM control unit (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342) or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) detects the status of the hood over the left hood contact switch (S62/43).
