Tuner Unit, Component Description - GF82.60-P-5015GW
Model 463
as of model year 2017 up to model year 2019
with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB))
Model 463
as of model year 2017 up to model year 2019
with code EM8 (TV tuner)
Model 463
as of model year 2017 up to model year 2019
with code ZU8 (National version for USA)
Location
The tuner unit is located behind the wheel well for the left rear wheel below the cover.
Tasks
The tuner unit does the following:
- Receive signals
- Processing signals
- Transmitting signals
Receive signals
- Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
- Direct lines
Media Oriented System Transport (MOST)
The tuner unit is a MOST participant and it communicates over this with the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
Direct lines
The tuner unit receives the following signals via direct lines:
- Power supply via circuit 31 and circuit 30g
- Wake-up signal for MOST
- Satellite digital audio radio (SDAR) antenna (A2/82), for SDARS (Satellite Digital Audio Radio Service) signals (with code ZU8 (USA national version))
- TV 1 antenna amplifier (A94/1), for DAB-Band-III signals (DAB 1) (with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB))) or TV-1 signals (with code EM8 (TV tuner))
- TV 2 antenna amplifier (A94/2), for TV-2 signals (with code EM8 (TV tuner))
- TV 3 and DAB antenna amplifier (A94/3), for DAB-Band-III signals (DAB 2) (with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB))) or TV-3 signals (with code EM8 (TV tuner)); on vehicles with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)) and code EM8 (TV tuner) over the TV antenna splitter (A2/89)
Processing signals
- With code ZU8 (USA national version), the tuner unit amplifies the satellite signals (Time for Division Multiplex (TDM)) and the terrestrial signals (Coded Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex (COFDM)) and decodes them into PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) signals.
- With code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)), the tuner unit decodes the DAB-Band-III signals into PCM signals.
- With code EM8 (TV tuner), the tuner unit decodes and demodulates the TV signals and separates them into video and audio signals.
- With code EM8 (TV tuner) and code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)), the tuner unit separates the DAB-Band-III signals from the TV signals at the TV 1 antenna input.
Transmitting signals
- MOST
- Direct lines
MOST
The tuner unit is a MOST participant and it communicates over this with the COMAND controller unit. The audio signals are transmitted to the COMAND controller unit or via the COMAND controller unit to the sound system amplifier control unit (N40/3) (with code EU9 (Harman Kardon® Logic 7® surround sound system)).
Direct lines
The tuner unit sends the following signals over a direct line:
- Supply voltage to TV 1 antenna amplifier (with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)) or with code EM8 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage to TV 2 antenna amplifier (with code EM8 (TV tuner))
- Supply voltage to TV 3 and DAB antenna amplifier (with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)) or with code EM8 (TV tuner)); on vehicles with code EF6 (Digital radio (DAB)) and code EM8 (TV tuner) over the TV antenna splitter
- Video signals over an LVDS (Low Voltage Differential Signal) line to the COMAND controller unit (with code EM8 (TV tuner))
Structure
With code ZJ1 (Version for Japan), the tuner unit is delivered with a "B-CAS card". The "B-CAS card" is designed as a subscriber identification module (SIM) card and is inserted in the SIM card reader. The SIM card reader is covered with a seal.
