Substitute Lights And Emergency Lights Actuation, Function - GF82.10-P-3080GWM

Model 463 (except 463.342)

as of model year 2019

Function requirements, general

IMPORTANT The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the status of circuit 15 via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6) and the rear SAM control unit (N10/8).

Backup/emergency lights actuation, general

The backup/emergency lights actuation ensures that the minimum amount of exterior lighting is provided in the event of failure of individual vehicle exterior illumination system components.

The backup/emergency light actuation consists of the following subfunctions:

Function sequence for substitute light control (except code ZU7 (national version for Canada) and except code ZU8 (National version for the USA))

The rear SAM control unit continuously monitors the function of the vehicle's rear lighting.

If the left rear turn signal light (E3e1) in the left rear lamp unit (E3) malfunctions, the rear SAM control unit actuates the brake light and the inner left tail light (E3e10) and the brake light and outer left tail light (E3e11) flash on an off.

If the right rear turn signal light (E4e1) in the right rear lamp unit (E4) malfunctions, the rear SAM control unit actuates the brake light and the inner right tail light (E4e10) and the brake light and outer right tail light (E4e11) flash on an off.

A failure of the rear turn signal light is shown on the instrument cluster (A1). To this end, the rear SAM control unit sends corresponding information via interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster.

Function sequence for emergency light actuation

If the interior CAN or the peripherals CAN (CAN PER) malfunctions, the front SAM control unit and the rear SAM control unit activate software emergency lighting. The rear SAM control unit actuates the taillights and the brake lights (depending on the status of circuit 54). The front SAM control unit activates the standing lights and low beams.

If the rain/light sensor with additional functions (B38/2) fails or communication with the rain/light sensor with additional functions fails, the front SAM control unit activates the auto on/off driving lights.
