Function requirements, general

Stealth lights actuation, general

The stealth lights actuation replaces the vehicle's customary exterior lights with stealth lights that have a very low luminosity level. This makes it possible to drive carefully when in darkness, while ensuring that the vehicle is only visible within a distance of a few meters. The use of stealth lights instead of the customary exterior lights makes it difficult, for example for the vehicle to be detected by observers when used in military service.

IMPORTANT The stealth lights are actuated according to the position of the stealth lights rotary light switch. The stealth lights control unit reads in the status of the stealth lights rotary light switch directly and sends it over direct lines to the SAM control unit.

Function sequence for stealth lights actuation

The following components are activated as a function of the switch position of the stealth lights rotary light switch:

The convoy marking, stealth headlamps and the stealth taillamps are powered directly through the stealth lights rotary light switch.

When the service brake is operated the SAM control unit actuates the stealth brake lamp directly. The stealth lights control unit, in switch positions "S1" and "S3", actuates the stealth brake lamp relay (K51/6) directly and switches circuit 31 through to the stealth brake lamp.

A lock slide in the stealth lights rotary light switch prevents any unintended changing over between the switch positions for the stealth lights and the switch positions for the customary exterior lights.

The following functions and components are deactivated when the stealth lights actuation is active:

IMPORTANT The symbol illumination for the differential lock button group (S76) and the lower control panel control unit are not deactivated.

The deactivation of functions and components during active stealth lights actuation is performed in different ways by the stealth lights control unit.

The stealth lights control unit switches off components by disconnecting the ground connections, through actuation of the following relays:

The stealth lights ground connection relay 1 (K51/18k1) switches off the customary exterior lights in the rear area of the vehicle.

The stealth lights ground connection relay 3 (K51/18k3) switches off the horns, glove compartment illumination and the customary exterior lights in the front area of the vehicle.

On vehicles except code F16 (Electric sliding roof with tilting function) the interior illumination relay 1 (K117k1) and interior illumination relay 2 (K117k2) switch off the interior illumination.

The circuit 15R (K41/1) relay is responsible for disconnecting circuit 15R to the multimedia system.

The instrument cluster generates the circuit 58d signal and sends it to actuate the switch and controls and symbol illumination over the instrument cluster CAN to the stealth lights control unit, which forwards the signal over the interior CAN. When stealth lights actuation is active, the stealth lights control unit switches off the switch and controls and symbol illumination, by forwarding the signal for circuit 58d with a value of 0 %.

IMPORTANT A comprehensive description of the switch and controls and symbol illumination is available in a separate document.

The stealth lights control unit also suppresses all light malfunction indicators in the instrument cluster when the stealth lights actuation is active. To do so, it receives all signals for light malfunction indicators from the SAM control unit over the interior CAN and forwards them over the instrument cluster CAN to the instrument cluster. When the stealth lights actuation is active, the stealth lights control unit switches off the light malfunction indicators by forwarding the signals with the value "OFF".

The stealth lights control unit also suppresses all function lighting in the overhead control panel control unit (with code F16 (Electric sliding roof with tilting function)), in the lower control panel control unit and the upper control panel control unit when stealth lights actuation is active. To do so, it receives signals from the SAM control unit for actuation of the function lighting over the roof LIN, center console switch LIN and the battery sensor LIN, and forwards them over the stealth lights LIN to the overhead control panel control unit (with code F16 (Electric sliding roof with tilting function)), the lower control panel control unit and the upper control panel control unit. When the stealth lights actuation is active, the stealth lights control unit switches off the function lighting by forwarding the signals with the value "OFF".

The stealth lights control unit sends the status of the stealth lights rotary light switch over the interior CAN to the automatic air conditioning control and operating unit. The automatic air conditioning control and operating unit evaluates the signal and switches off the function lighting and background illumination when the stealth lights actuation is active.
