- Standing lights ON (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342, except code E11 (Stealth light with convoy marking)) (Exterior lights switch (S1) in the "Standing lights" or "Manual driving light" position), with code ZU7 (National version for Canada) or code ZU8 (National version for the USA) only in "Manual driving light" position
- Exterior lighting switch in "AUTO" position (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342, except code E11 (Stealth light with convoy marking))
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) sends the status of circuit 15 over the interior CAN (CAN B) to the SAM control unit (N10) (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) or the front SAM control unit (N10/6) (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342).
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2019
Low beams actuation is active during fog light actuation.
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2013 up to model year 2019
Model 463.342
as of model year 2013
During fog light actuation, the standing lights actuation is active (except code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking)).
Front fog light actuation, general
Front fog light actuation provides better illumination of the road (in model 463.202/236/237/346) while driving as well as illuminating the rear of the vehicle under bad weather conditions.
The front fog light actuation consists of the following partial functions:
- Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (in model 463.202/236/237/242/346)
- Rear fog light actuation function sequence
Function sequence for front fog lamp actuation (in model 463.202/236/237/242/346)
After pressing the front fog lamp switch (S1s11) on the exterior lights switch, the front fog lamp actuation is requested. The SAM control unit directly reads in the status of the front fog lamp button and actuates the left front fog lamp (E5/1) and the right front fog lamp (E5/2).
The active front fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver.
The SAM control unit sends the "Front fog lamp indicator lamp On" request via interior CAN to the instrument cluster (A1), which then actuates the front fog lamp indicator lamp (A1e57).
On vehicles with code ZU7 (Canada national version) or code ZU8 (USA national version) the front fog lamp and high beam actuation functions may not be performed at the same time. The last incoming request has priority.
Rear fog light actuation function sequence
For vehicles as of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342) the following applies:
The rear fog light actuation is requested by pressing the rear fog light button (S1s10) on the exterior lights switch.
The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the rear fog light button directly and sends the request to switch on the rear fog light over the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) and to the trailer recognition control unit (N28/1).
The rear SAM control unit directly actuates the following component in accordance with the country coding:
- Left rear fog light (E3e5) in the left rear lamp unit (E3) (left-hand drive vehicle)
- Right rear fog light (E4e5) in the right rear lamp unit (E4) (right-hand drive vehicle)
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the corresponding rear fog light on trailer over the trailer socket (X58) (with code Q55 (Trailer coupling, ball head) or code Q59 (Trailer hitch, removable)).
The rear fog light on the vehicle is not actuated during trailer operation. For this purpose, the trailer recognition control unit sends a corresponding signal with the information "Operational rear fog lamp exists on trailer" via interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit.
The active rear fog light actuation is indicated visually to the driver. The front SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp ON" request over the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN (CAN HMI) to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the rear fog light control message.
For vehicles up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342 the following applies:
On vehicles without code E11 (Stealth light with convoy marking) rear fog light actuation is requested by pressing the rear fog light button on the exterior lights switch. The SAM control unit reads in the status of the rear fog light button directly and actuates the rear fog lamp (E3/1).
On vehicles with code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking) pressing the rear fog light switch (S97/6) requests actuation of the rear fog light. The SAM control unit reads in the status of the rear fog light switch directly and then actuates the rear fog light.
At the same time the SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light ON" request over the interior CAN to the trailer recognition control unit (except model 463.242).
The trailer recognition control unit actuates the corresponding rear fog light on the trailer over the trailer socket.
The rear fog light on the vehicle is not actuated during trailer operation. For this purpose, the trailer recognition control unit sends a corresponding signal with the information "Operational rear fog lamp exists on trailer" via interior CAN to the SAM control unit.
On vehicles without code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking) the SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp ON" request over the interior CAN to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp (A1e18).
On vehicles with code E11 (Stealth lights with convoy marking), the SAM control unit sends the "Rear fog light indicator lamp ON" request over the interior CAN, stealth lights control unit (N1) and the instrument cluster CAN (CAN IC) to the instrument cluster, which then actuates the rear fog light indicator lamp.
