The CD/DVD changer is integrated into the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and contains a magazine for up to six CDs or DVDs.
The CD/DVD changer enables the following function sequences to be performed:
- Load CD or DVD function sequence
- Eject CD or DVD function sequence
Shown on COMAND controller unit up to 31.08.2016
Load CD or DVD function sequence
After pressing the Load button on the COMAND controller unit, the Audio/COMAND display (A40/8) shows the "Magazine menu" and details on the last selected CD/DVD slot in the CD/DVD changer. The Audio/COMAND control panel (A40/9) can be used to select the required CD/DVD slot.
The CD/DVD slot can also be selected using the keypad (button 1 to 6) on the COMAND controller unit.
A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 2". After inserting the CD or DVD into the CD/DVD drive, the Audio/COMAND display shows a message, e.g. "Disc 2 loading...".
The duration of the loading process can vary depending on the type of data storage device involved.
Once the CD or DVD is loaded, the display changes back to the "Cartridge menu". If no CD or DVD is inserted, the display also changes back to "Magazine menu" after 20 seconds. A loaded CD or DVD is shown in the "Cartridge menu".
The "Fill up empty spaces" menu enables several CDs or DVDs to be loaded one after the other. A CD or DVD must not be inserted until the corresponding request to do so appears on the Audio/COMAND display, e.g. "Please insert Disc 3". The "COMAND controller unit" then fills the empty CD/DVD slots one after the other.
The data exchange between the COMAND controller unit, the Audio/COMAND display, and the Audio/COMAND control panel takes place through the telematics CAN (CAN A). The video signals for the display messages are sent by the COMAND controller unit over a Low Voltage Differential Signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND display.
Eject CD or DVD function sequence
After pressing the Load button on the COMAND controller unit, the Audio/COMAND display shows the "Cartridge menu" including details on the last selected CD/DVD slot in the CD/DVD changer. The desired CD/DVD slot can be selected by turning or pressing the controls on the Audio/COMAND control panel to the left or right. Selection is confirmed by pressing vertically onto the Audio/COMAND control panel.
The CD/DVD slot can also be selected using the keypad (button 1 to 6) on the COMAND controller unit.
While the CD or DVD is ejected, a message appears in the Audio/COMAND display (e.g. "Disc 2 being ejected..."). As soon as the CD or DVD appears in the CD/DVD drive slot, a corresponding message is shown (e.g. "Please remove disc 2").
Once the CD or DVD is removed, the display changes back to the "Cartridge menu". If the CD or DVD is not removed, the CD or DVD is loaded again.
The "Eject all" menu enables all the loaded CDs or DVDs to be removed one after the other.
As soon as the CD or DVD appears in the CD/DVD drive slot, a corresponding message appears (e.g. "Please remove disc 3"). Once the CD or DVD is removed from the CD/DVD drive slot, the next CD or DVD is ejected until the entire CD/DVD cartridge is empty.
An ejected CD or DVD is shown in the "Cartridge menu" as an empty CD/DVD slot.
The ejection procedure can be stopped at any time by pressing the load button on the COMAND controller unit or the "Back" button (A40/9s2) of the Audio/COMAND control panel.
