Ambient Illumination, Function - GF82.10-P-2014GW

The head unit transmits the status of the "Ambient illumination" function via the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), the electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and the interior CAN (CAN B) to the front SAM control unit (N10/6).

The ambient brightness is detected by the light sensor (B38/2b2) in the rain and light sensor with additional functions. The rain/light sensor with additional functions reads in the signals of the light sensor directly, evaluates them and transmits information about the ambient light situation (dimness level) via the rain/light sensor LIN (LIN B16) to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit reads in the status of the exterior lights switch directly.

The instrument cluster sends the status of the "surround lighting" function over the interior CAN to the SAM control unit (N10).

The SAM control unit reads in the status of the rain and light sensor over the roof LIN (LIN B13) and the status of the exterior lights switch directly.

Surround lighting, general 

The surround lighting function is used for leaving and finding the vehicle safely and reliably in darkness by illuminating the vehicle environment.

The duration of the ambient illumination can be adjusted at the head unit in 15 second increments from t = 0 to 60 s.

The following light functions are activated here:

IMPORTANT The outside mirror ambient lamps project an image of the Mercedes star onto the ground.

The ambient illumination function encompasses the following partial functions:

IMPORTANT The headlamp switch-off delay and locator lighting functions run in parallel if necessary. An active headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) function is not terminated by a requested AFB function and vice versa.

Function sequence for headlamp switch-off delay (as of 03.04.2018 except model 463.342), 

The SWA function is activated by the driver after the engine has been switched off (change in circuit status from circuit 15 ON to circuit 15R ON) for the configured period of time. The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via the interior CAN.

The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation.

Furthermore, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp.

The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.

IMPORTANT The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. The rear-end door is counted as a vehicle door here. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function is restarted.

The front door control units send the status of the front doors and the rear door control units send the status of the rear doors over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit. The status of the rear-end door is sent by the rear SAM control unit (N10/8) over the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The active headlamp switch-off delay is interrupted when circuit 15 is switched on or when an anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm (with code FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) or code FZ8 (Alarm system)) is triggered.

Function sequence for headlamp switch-off delay (up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342) 

The headlamp switch-off delay function is activated after switching off the engine by the driver (change from circuit 15 ON status to circuit 15R ON) for t = 60 s. The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the circuit 15 status over the interior CAN to the SAM control unit. The SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. It also sends a request to switch on the ambient illumination over the interior CAN to the following control units (except model 463.342):

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp directly. The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp directly.

IMPORTANT The function starts again by opening a vehicle door. The rear-end door is counted as a vehicle door here. If all vehicle doors are closed again, the function repeats.

The status of the respective front door is sent by the left front door control unit or the right front door control unit. The status of the rear doors on model 463.23/24/34/27 (except model 463.342) is sent by the left rear door control unit (N69/3) and the right rear door control unit (N69/4) over the interior CAN to the SAM control unit. On model 463.342 the left rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/3s1) and the right rear door rotary tumbler switch (A85/4s1) are read in directly by the SAM control unit. The status of the rear-end door is sent by the rear control unit (N10/8) over the interior CAN to the SAM control unit.

The active headlamp switch-off delay is interrupted when circuit 15 is switched on or when an anti-theft alarm system (ATA [EDW]) alarm (with code FZ5 (Anti-theft alarm system) or code FZ8 (Alarm system)) is triggered. The SAM control unit is the master control unit for the ATA [EDW].

Function sequence for AFB 

When unlocking the vehicle using radio frequency or infrared, the vehicle surrounding area is illuminated for a period of approx. t = 40 s (time for automatic relocking).

Vehicles as of 03.04.2018 (except model 463.342): 

The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking via interior CAN to the front SAM control unit.

The front SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation.

Furthermore, the front SAM control unit sends the request to switch on the ambient illumination via interior CAN to the following control units:

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp.

The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp.

Vehicles up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342: 

The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of the central locking via interior CAN to the SAM control unit. The SAM control unit then activates the standing/parking lights actuation. It also sends a request to switch on the ambient illumination over the interior CAN to the following control units (except model 463.342):

The left front door control unit actuates the left outside mirror ambient lamp directly. The right front door control unit actuates the right outside mirror ambient lamp directly.

IMPORTANT Vehicles up to 02.04.2018 or model 463.342

The locator lighting function is terminated when a vehicle door is opened, when circuit 15C is switched on or an ATA [EDW] alarm is triggered.
