Automatic Dimming Outside Mirror And Inside Rearview Mirror, Function - GF88.79-P-2010GW
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2013
Function requirements, general
- No overvoltage or undervoltage
- Circuit 15R ON
- Reverse gear not engaged
- Interior illumination not switched on
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2019
The electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) transmits the circuit status of circuit 15R via the interior CAN (CAN B) to the overhead control panel control unit (N70).
Model 463 (except 463.342)
as of model year 2013 up to model year 2019
The electronic ignition lock control unit transmits the circuit 15R status via the interior CAN to the SAM control unit (N10).
Automatically dimming outside and inside rearview mirror
The mirror glasses of the inside rearview mirror (A67), left outside mirror (M21/1) in the left-hand drive vehicle or of the right outside mirror (M21/2) in the right-hand drive vehicle are electro-chromatically dimmable. This is realized by a layer of electrolyte gel in the mirror which controls the light permeability in increments depending on the voltage applied.
The inside rearview mirror senses the ambient light via the mirror dimming light sensor, forward (A67h1) and the light hitting the mirror glass via the mirror dimming light sensor, rearward (A67h2).
The inside rearview mirror evaluates these input factors and transmits the mirror dimming request via the roof LIN (LIN B13) to the overhead control panel control unit (as of 03.04.2018) or the SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018).
The overhead control panel control unit (as of 03.04.2018) or SAM control unit (up to 02.04.2018) transmits the dimming information via the interior CAN to the left front door control unit (N69/1) or the right front door control unit (N69/2).
The front door control units receive the dimming information and supply the corresponding actuation voltage to the mirror dimming (M21/1h1) of the left outside mirror or the mirror dimming (M21/2h1) of the right outside mirror.
The mirror glass in the interior mirrors is dimmed by the interior mirror itself through activation by the mirror dimming (A67h3).
If an interior illumination is switched on during mirror dimming or the reverse gear is engaged, the dimming is interrupted.
