The higher-level service information as well as the safety information must be observed.
- Expose spot welds in paneling (1) and cut out (A areas).
- Expose rivets in paneling (1) and drill off with Ø 6.5 mm (B areas).
The following operation steps, 3 to 8, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Heat paneling (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove paneling (1).
- Expose spot welds in reinforcement (3) and cut off (C and D areas).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Remove reinforcement (3).
- Expose spot welds in reinforcement (4) and cut off (D areas).
- Remove reinforcement (4).
- Expose spot welds in crossmember (2) and cut off (E areas).
- Remove crossmember (2).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (F, G areas).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
The following operation steps, 14 to 16, are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
