Location 

The integrated left outer rear bumper radar sensor and the integrated right outer rear bumper radar sensor are inserted into the rear bumper on the appropriate side from the inside.

Tasks 

The radar sensors (short range sensors) recognize objects (e.g. vehicles) in the short range area that cannot be seen in the outside mirrors and the inside rearview mirror. If the driver intends to change lanes and objects are recognized, the right outer rear bumper integrated radar sensor triggers a warning if necessary.

The radar sensors are part of the peripherals CAN (CAN PER). The functions that use these signals are described in the individual function descriptions (see block diagram or function schematic).

The outer rear bumper integrated radar sensors operate according to the "master-slave" principle. The master or slave function can be determined via the connector coding. The master function is defined for the integrated outer rear bumper radar sensor. In other words, the integrated left outer rear bumper radar sensor transmits its information via the peripherals CAN to the integrated right outer rear bumper radar sensor which evaluates the corresponding information from both integrated outer rear bumper radar sensors and transmits corresponding requests or data via the peripherals CAN to the corresponding control units.
