The following instructions describe the procedure for offline SCN coding. The SCN coding data are requested by fax from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk.

For the offline fallback process, Daimler AG reserves the right to charge a flat rate per request.

Requirements for offline SCN coding:

A diagnostic system with a printer
A fax machine or a email address

The offline SCN coding is divided into two steps:

Complete the fax form with the vehicle data to order the SCN coding data.
Perform the SCN coding. The User Help Desk Star Diagnosis creates the SCN coding data.

Determine the vehicle data for the offline SCN coding
1. Select the control unit in XENTRY Diagnostics.
2. Select offline SCN coding.
  Control unit adjustments or installation → SCN coding → offline (no networked Star diagnostic device)
3. Confirm the note about the SCN coding process.
4. Fill out the fax form completely and print it out.
  If an email address is provided in the fax form, the SCN coding data will be delivered by email. If a fax number is provided in the fax form, the SCN coding data will be delivered by fax.
5. Send the printed fax form to the specified number of the "Star Diagnose User Help Desk".
Perform the SCN coding
Upon receipt of the SCN coding data by email
1. 6. Unzip the zip files and burn the data on a CD or save them on a USB removable storage device.
2. 7. Label the CD or the USB removable storage device accordingly.
3. 8. In XENTRY, select menu item step two "Perform the SCN coding".
4. 9. Insert the CD or the USB removable storage device.
  To put control units in write mode, an unlocking code (key) is required for the respective control unit. If the regular processes are used, this is automatically requested from the central systems. In the offline fallback process, XENTRY asks the user to request the activation code by telephone from the Star Diagnosis User Help Desk. A detailed process description is stored in the INFO information system.
5. 10. Dispose of the CD/USB data in accordance with the guidelines for theft-related parts (STR 69/00) and document the disposal on the repair order.
  Upon receipt of the SCN coding data by fax
6. 11. In XENTRY, select menu item step two "Perform the SCN coding".
7. 12. Selection of keyboard entry.
8. 13. Enter the SCN coding data manually in the diagnosis system.
  Final work
9. 14. Perform the SCN coding.
  If given by XD,

  switch the ignition on and off again.
10. 15. Print out the order log and enclose it with the repair order.
  The job log can be saved in the diagnostic system via the "Print menu" → "Print to file". With the Starpad program, job logs can be viewed and printed via "Star utilities" → "Logs".
11. 16.1. Upon receipt of the SCN coding data by email.
  Import the data via CD or USB removable storage device.
12. 16.2. Upon receipt of the SCN coding data by fax.
  Delete the data on the USB removable storage device and document the deletion on the repair order.
