The adaptive damping system control unit is located on the control unit carrier in the trunk.

Location 

The adaptive damping system control unit is located on the control unit carrier on the trunk floor.

Tasks 

The adaptive damping system control unit does the following:

• Reading in of signals 
• Evaluation of input factors 
• Actuation of components 
• Sending signals 

Reading in of signals 

The input factors are read in over the following connections:

• Direct lines 
• Chassis FlexRay (Flex E) 

Direct lines 

The Adaptive Damping System control unit reads in the signals from the following components via direct lines:

• Left rear level sensor (B22/7)
• Left front level sensor (B22/8)
• Right front level sensor (B22/9)
• Right rear level sensor (B22/10)

Chassis FlexRay 

The Adaptive Damping System control unit also reads in the following signals via chassis FlexRay:

• Steering wheel angle
• Steering wheel velocity
• Kickdown request (transmission 725)
• Vehicle speed
• Body variant
• Type of drive

Evaluation of input factors 

The input factors that have been read in are evaluated by the integrated microprocessor and the relevant components are then actuated.

Actuation of components 

The Adaptive Damping System control unit actuates the following components via direct lines:

• Left front axle damping valve unit (Y51):
  • Solenoid valve 1, left front (Y51y1)
  • Solenoid valve 2, left front (Y51y2)
• Right front axle damping valve unit (Y52):
  • Solenoid valve 1, right front (Y52y1)
  • Solenoid valve 2, right front (Y52y2)
• Left rear axle damping valve unit (Y53):
  • Solenoid valve 1, left rear (Y53y1)
  • Solenoid valve 2, left rear (Y53y2)
• Right rear axle damping valve unit (Y54):
  • Solenoid valve 1, right rear (Y54y1)
  • Solenoid valve 2, right rear (Y54y2)

Sending signals 

The Adaptive Damping System control unit also sends the following signals via chassis FlexRay:

• Damping mode
• Fault message
