The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on C-pillar (1) and cut (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a1 = approx. 295 mm
a2 = approx. 20 mm
- Expose spot welds on B-pillar (1) and cut out (areas B).
Joint spot welds on panels that are one behind the other must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on C-pillar (1) and drill with Ø 6, 5 mm bit (areas C1
and C2
).
Drill out spot welds from inside (area C1 ).
Drill out spot welds from bottom (area C2 ).
- Heat C-pillar (1) and body in crosshatched areas (areas D1
, D2
and E).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
Heat body from inside (area D1 ).
Heat body from bottom (area D2 ).
- Remove C-pillar (1) with foam part (2).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust (areas F).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
