The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in a similar manner on the right side of the vehicle in the event of damage.
- Install longitudinal member paneling (1), fit and fix in place.
- Drill rivet holes in longitudinal member paneling (1) with Ø 6.7 mm (areas A and B).
- Countersink rivet holes (area B).
- Remove longitudinal member paneling (1)
- Drill rivet holes in crossmember (1) and deburr on body on both sides.
- Remove drill chips.
- Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.
- Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
7 - Install longitudinal member paneling (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet longitudinal member panel (1) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivet (area C).
Clamping range 3.7 mm up to 4.8 mm.
- Rivet longitudinal member panel (1) with Ø 6.4x14.0 countersunk-head rivets (area D 1).
Clamping range 2.5 mm.
- Rivet longitudinal member panel (1) with Ø 6.4x15.5 countersunk-head rivet (area D2
).
Clamping range 3.9 mm up to 4.5 mm.
- Longitudinal member paneling (1)
(areas E).
- Longitudinal member paneling (1)
(areas F).
Perform inert gas welding at intervals and allow welding areas to cool down in between. This reduces heat distortion.
- Grind inert gas welds down flat.
- Solder surfaces on longitudinal member panel (1) with body solder and smooth (areas F).
Alternatively to restorage of the surfaces with body solder it is also possible to use a body basic spatula.
- Remove solder residues or grinding dust.
