- Separate adhesive bead between rear center section (1) and spare wheel well.
The rear center section (1) it glued to the spare wheel well.
- Expose spot welds on rear center section (1) and cut out (areas A).
- Expose spot welds on rear center section (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (areas B).
- Expose spot welds on right and left rear fender and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (areas C).
It is necessary to loosen spot welds to extend and retract the rear center section (1).
The following operations steps 5 to 7 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side.
- Expose spot welds on rear center section (1) and cut out (areas D).
- Expose spot welds on rear center section (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area E).
- Heat rear center section (1) in crosshatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Heat rear center section (1) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Bend open connecting flange on right rand left rear fender approx. 90° (arrows).
- Remove rear center section (1).
Helper required.
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust (areas F).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
The following operation steps 14 and 15 are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way on the right side of the vehicle.
- Grind mating surface down to bare metal in crosshatched area on inside.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
