The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.
- Mark separating point on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a = approx. 105 mm
b = approx. 30 mm
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut out (areas C).
Joint spot welds on A-pillar paneling (5) and A-pillar reinforcement must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Heat A-pillar paneling (5) in cross-hatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove A-pillar paneling (5).
- Mark separating point on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (areas D and E).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
d = approx. 110 mm
e = approx.55 mm
- Expose solder seam on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (area F).
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut out (areas N).
Joint spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and A-pillar inner panel must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut out (areas G).
- Heat A-pillar reinforcement (6) in cross-hatched areas.
- Remove A-pillar reinforcement (6).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Mark separating point on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut (area K).
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut out (areas J).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
k = approx. 45 mm
- Expose MIG solder seam on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut (area H).
- Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (7) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area L).
- Expose solder seams on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut (areas I).
- Heat A-pillar inner panel (7) in crosshatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove A-pillar inner panel (7).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
Grind mating surface on inside down to bare metal (area P).
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas O and P).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
