TV mode, general
The TV tuner control unit makes it possible to receive digital TV channels in the vehicle and show them on the Audio/COMAND display. The head unit switches the TV picture off when the vehicle starts to move. When the vehicle is moving, only acoustic playback remains active and - for safety reasons - a warning is shown on the Audio/COMAND display. The head unit receives the speed signal from the instrument cluster via the user interface CAN.
If the head unit is not switched on, it can be activated using the head unit ON button (model 257) or using the volume control button (model 290) in the right lower control panel. The signal is sent by the right lower control panel over the LCP-LIN, the Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) or the touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only)) and the telematics CAN to the head unit.
On model 257 the head unit button operation signal is sent over the following route:

The TV functions can be selected, activated and set with the controls of the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group. The volume can be changed using the head unit multifunction steering wheel button group's volume adjustment switch. The operation signals are sent over the following route:

The TV functions can be selected, activated and adjusted using the Audio/COMAND controller of the Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)). The "Back" button supports navigation in the menus. The operation signals are sent from the Audio/COMAND control panel (except code 446 (Touchpad only)) over the telematics CAN to the head unit.
The TV functions can be operated using the touchpad (with code 446 (Touchpad only) or with code 448 (Touchpad)). The control signals are transmitted to the head unit by the touchpad via telematics CAN.
The TV functions can be activated on the upper control panel control unit. The volume can be adjusted using the volume control button on the right lower control panel. The operation signals of the volume control button (model 257) or the upper control panel control unit are forwarded as follows:

The TV media source can also be selected via the instrument cluster.
The TV tuner control unit separates the video and audio signals that are contained in the TV signals. The TV mode is therefore comprised as follows:

The TV tuner control unit processes the TV signals and separates the video signals from the audio signals.

The TV tuner control unit sends the audio signals over MOST to the head unit. On model 257 (except 257.361) except code 810 (Sound system) and except code 811 (Advanced Sound System), the head unit amplifies the audio signals and emits them at the speaker system.
In the other cases, the head unit forwards the audio signals over MOST to the following components:

- Sound system amplifier control unit (with code 810 (Sound system))

With digital TV reception the "one-segment" substandard (TV standard for mobile telephony) is also supported in addition to the "full-segment" substandard.

The TV tuner control unit has the following functionalities:
- Digital image storage
- Last settings
- "BML" (Broadcast Markup Language) function: The TV tuner control supports video text for all available Japanese TV stations. This enables information to be shown similar to a small website on weather, news, etc. By selecting a region in the setting list you can obtain region-specific information.
- "EPG" (Electronic Program Guide) function: The Electronic Program Guide shows information such as start and end of broadcasts and detailed information on the television programs for each TV station.
- Bilingual function: Two languages are supported depending on station availability, e.g. Japanese on the main-sound track and English on the sub-sound track.

TV reception
Only digital television in accordance with the standard Digital Video Broadcasting-Terrestrial (DVB-T/DTV-T2) in the range of 470 to 710 MHz is received. In addition to the video compression standard Mpeg 2, Mpeg 4 and Mpeg H (+H.265) is also supported. Encrypted programs can be received with a CI+ (Common Interface Plus) module.
Additional functions
New services will be offered in the frequency ranges from 90 to 108 MHz and 170 to 222 MHz in future that can be supported by the TV tuner control unit.
The TV tuner control unit currently has the following functionalities:

- Station list of channels currently receivable

- Info (information on currently selected stations)
Video text function: Some stations, primarily in central Europe, offer video text in addition to their television program. To this end, the TV tuner control unit is equipped with a separate video text decoder. Only video text broadcast with Latin ASCII characters are supported, i.e. Greek or Cyrillic characters are not supported.
