REMOVING Remove     
1 Switch electronic ignition lock control unit to position "0".    
2 Remove engine cover (21) with cold air guide (22).    
3 Remove engine air intake duct downstream of air filter (7).

REFER TO TESTING & REPAIR   Engine 256.9 in model 222 AR09.10-P-8130MRT
4 Remove noise damper (8).    
5 Unhook retaining clips (9). NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
Damage can otherwise occur.
 
6 Remove screws (5a). SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 1
7 Remove ignition coils (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e) with connected lines and set down as per graphic. NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
Damage can otherwise occur.
 
8 Lift up noise damper (10) and unhook retaininc clip (11). NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
Damage can otherwise occur.
 
9 Place loosened wiring harness (12) on noise damper (10), as shown.    
10 Remove screws (5b). SPECIAL TOOL Socket wrench bit Fig 1
11 Remove ignition coil (6f) with connected lines and set down as per graphic. NOTES Do not crush or kink or subject electric lines to tension.
Damage can otherwise occur.
 
CLEAN Clean     
12 Use compressed air to blow out any dirt residue in the spark-plug recesses. SPECIAL TOOL Set of protective covers Fig 2

REMOVING Remove     
13 Unscrew spark plugs (1) using spark plug wrench (01) from cylinder head. SPECIAL TOOL Spark plug wrench Fig 3
INSTALLING Install     
14 Screw new spark plugs (1) using spark plug wrench (01) into cylinder head. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Spark plug to cylinder head *BA15.10-P-1001-01C

INSPECT Check     
15 Check spark plug connectors (2), ignition coils (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e, 6f) and ignition lines for damage, deformation and cracking. If problems are determined, ↓
rectify the problems.
IMPORTANT After obtaining special order.
 
INSTALLING Install     
16 Apply coating of spark plug connector grease to sealing lips (3) of spark plug connectors (2) before installation. Spark plug connector grease *BR00.45-Z-1102-06A 
17 Install ignition coil (6f) with connected lines.    
18 Screw in screws (5b). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, ignition coil to cylinder head cover *BA15.10-P-1001-04A

19 Take loosened wiring harness (12) from noise damper (10) and route back to installation position.    
20 Hook in retaining clip (11) and move noise damper (10) to design position.    
21 Install ignition coils (6a, 6b, 6c, 6d, 6e) with connected lines.    
22 Screw in screws (5a). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, ignition coil to cylinder head cover *BA15.10-P-1001-04A

23 Hook in retaining clips (9).    
24 Install noise damper (8).    
25 Install engine air intake duct downstream of air filter (7).
