Restricted maximum design speed for winter tires with "V" identification (speed index)
For V tires, the maximum tire load capacity according to ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organisation) standard is only given up to 210 km/h.
As speed increases beyond 210 km/h, the permissible tire load capacity is reduced by the so-called load allowance (1.5% per 5 km/h) up to 91% at 240 km/h.
This may mean that the vehicle cannot be operated without restriction up to 240 km/h. The maximum permissible speed is dependent on the tire's load index and the vehicle's permissible axle load (motor vehicle registration certificate Section I Sub-section 7 and 8).
This can be determined on a vehicle-specific basis with the aid of the corresponding load allowance table for the V winter tires.
A corresponding M & S maximum speed label is to be attached in the driver's field of vision.
The tire pressure (See fuel filler door for specification) is to be increased as follows:
- Up to 220 km/h + 4%
- Up to 225 km/h + 6%
- Up to 230 km/h + 8%
- Up to 235 km/h + 10%
- Up to 240 km/h + 12%
The maximum tire pressure may not exceed 3.5 bar (350 kPa).
Winter tires with speed rating "V"

For W tires, the maximum tire load capacity according to ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organisation) standard is only given up to 270 km/h.
A corresponding M & S maximum speed label is to be attached in the driver's field of vision.

For Y tires, the maximum tire load capacity according to ETRTO (European Tire and Rim Technical Organisation) standard is only given up to 300 km/h.
