General 

The inductive charging function enables mobile phones to be charged wirelessly.

Function requirements 

• Mobile phone with Qi standard
• In electric vehicles: Range maximization is not activated for the interior function area.

When the affected functions are switched on again, range maximization for the entire function area is canceled.

Function 

The inductive charging of mobile phones occurs via the contact surface of the mobile phone cradle control unit or the rear passenger compartment mobile phone cradle control unit. For this purpose, integrated coils in the mobile phone cradle induce a current in the coils installed in the mobile phone.

The smartphone exchanges information regarding the charge level via the inductive coupling as well (as parts scope of the Qi standard).

Multimedia system control evaluates the charge level and starts or ends the charging process depending on the charge level of the mobile phone.

Inductive charging is only possible over very short distances. Therefore, as small a distance as possible between the transmitting coil and the receiving coil is important for efficient charging.

Because the position of the coil in the mobile phone can vary depending on the model, the position of the mobile phone in the mobile phone cradle can have an influence on the charging behavior.

For inductive charging, the mobile phone cradle supports Qi standard 1.2.

This enables fast charging with up to 15 W of output depending on the mobile phone.
