General
The rear airbag is intended to ensure the protection of the vehicle occupants in the rear passenger compartment in the event of an impact and protect them from injuries. The rear passenger compartment airbag is integrated into the backrest of the respective front seat. The rear passenger compartment airbag is designed as a tubular structure airbag.
Function
Inflation of the rear airbag during a crash, serves to protect the vehicle occupants in the rear passenger compartment from colliding with the seat backrests of the front seats. This can prevent injuries to the vehicle occupants in the rear passenger compartment or minimize the degree of injury involved. The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit directly actuates the rear airbag squib (2) in the respective rear airbag unit (1).
The rear airbag can be switched on and off manually via the central display.
