IMPORTANT Depending on the vehicle model, the gas cylinder (1) with refrigerant inerting squib (4) is located on the firewall or behind the fender.

IMPORTANT Depending on the vehicle model and engine variant, multiple nozzles (3) can be installed in the engine compartment.

Task

Inert gas (argon) is stored in the gas cylinder (1). Where the refrigerant inerting squib is triggered, the inert gas (argon) flows out of the gas cylinder (1) via the piping (2) and nozzle(s) (3) into the engine compartment. Via the targeted release of inert gas (argon) at the corresponding hot spots, a possible ignition of the refrigerant/air mixture can be counteracted.

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit actuates the refrigerant inerting squib directly.
