To remove the engine 

  1. Disconnect electrical connections (1).
  2. Remove screw/bolts (2) and remove heat shield (3) upwards.
  3. Remove cover (4).
  4. Detach electrical lines (5).
  5. Unclip electrical line (6) at transmission, flap control bracket and underfloor paneling.
  6. Disconnect electrical connection (7) for flap control.
  7. Unclip electrical line (8) on transmission.
  8. Disconnect electrical connection (9) at the oil pump.
  9. Disconnect electrical connection (10) on intelligent servo module.
  10. Detach ground line (11) at transmission TORQUE SPECIFICATION .

  11. Unclip electrical line (12) on heat shield (13).
  12. Remove heat shield (13) TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  13. Detach electrical connection (14) from transmission control.
  14. Place engine wiring harness to one side.

    To remove the cylinder head covers or rails

  15. Unclip electrical line (15) for left high-pressure pump on crash plate and left cylinder head cover.
  16. Separate cable ties at the electrical line (15) on left rail.

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie.

  17. Disconnect electrical connection (16) at the left high-pressure pump.
  18. Unclip electrical line (17) on left cylinder head cover.
  19. Disconnect electrical connections (18) of injectors on left cylinder head.
  20. Unclip electrical line (19) on left cylinder head cover.
  21. Disconnect electrical connection (20) for knock sensor.
  22. Disconnect electrical connection (21) for temperature sensor on left charge air distributor.
  23. Disconnect the electrical connection (22) on left sensor of the exhaust camshaft.
  24. Disconnect the electrical connection (23) on left sensor of the intake camshaft.
  25. Disconnect electrical connection (24) on left solenoid of the intake camshaft.
  26. Disconnect electrical connection (25) on left solenoid of the exhaust camshaft.
  27. Disconnect electrical connection (26) on purge valve.
  28. Unclip electrical line (27) on left throttle valve actuator.
  29. Disconnect electrical connection (28) at left throttle valve actuator.
  30. Disconnect electrical connection (29) at left pressure sensor downstream of throttle valve actuator.
  31. Detach bracket (30) at left cylinder head cover TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  32. Detach ground line (31) at left cylinder head cover TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  33. Unclip electrical lines for ignition coils on left cylinder head.
  34. Disconnect electrical connections (32) of ignition coils on left cylinder head.
  35. Disconnect electrical connection (33) for pressure sensor of left rail.
  36. Unclip plug connections (34) on crash plate of right high-pressure pump.
  37. Detach ground line (35) at right cylinder head cover TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  38. Remove insulation (36) for right high-pressure pump.
  39. Unclip electrical line (44) for right high-pressure pump on crash plate and right cylinder head cover.
  40. Separate cable ties at the electrical line (44) on left rail.

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie.

  41. Disconnect electrical connection (45) at the right high-pressure pump.
  42. Unclip electrical lines for ignition coils on right cylinder head.
  43. Disconnect electrical connections (37) of ignition coils on right cylinder head.
  44. Unscrew screw/bolt (38) from engine wiring harness holder.
  45. Remove screw/bolts (39) of engine wiring harness TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  46. Disconnect electrical connection (40) on right sensor of the exhaust camshaft.
  47. Disconnect electrical connection (41) on right sensor of the intake camshaft.
  48. Disconnect electrical connection (42) on solenoid of the right intake camshaft.
  49. Disconnect electrical connection (43) on solenoid of the right exhaust camshaft.
  50. Remove insulation (48) on the right rail.
  51. Unclip engine wiring harness on right rail.
  52. Disconnect electrical connections (46) at injectors on right cylinder head.
  53. Disconnect electrical connection (47) for pressure sensor of right rail.
  54. Disconnect electrical connection (49) for temperature sensor on right charge air distributor.
  55. Remove screw/bolts (50).
  56. Disconnect electrical connection (51) on pressure sensor downstream of right throttle valve actuator.
  57. Detach hoses (52) on left and right charge air cooler.
  58. Unclip electrical line (53) on right throttle valve actuator.
  59. Disconnect electrical connection (54) on right throttle valve actuator.
  60. Disconnect electrical connections (55) on solenoid valves.
  61. Remove screw/bolts (56) TORQUE SPECIFICATION .
  62. Disconnect electrical connections (57) from ME-SFI [ME] control unit.
  63. Remove screw/bolt (58) at right charge air cooler.
  64. Disconnect cable tie for coolant vent line (59) and place coolant vent line (59) to one side.

    INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace cable tie.

  65. Disconnect electrical connection (60) on pressure sensor upstream of right throttle valve actuator.
  66. Disconnect electrical connection (61) on pressure sensor upstream of left throttle valve actuator.
  67. Separate electrical connection (62).
  68. Disconnect electrical connection on plug connection (63) of solenoid valve (64).
  69. Unclip engine wiring harness on the right and left at the brackets for the charge air cooler.
  70. Place engine wiring harness to one side.
