DANGER Risk of fire  /risk of explosion due to short circuit and escaping oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of (burn) injury caused by caustic burns to eyes, skin and mucous membranes from battery electrolyte/mist, short circuit and arcing. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing battery electrolyte or absorption of lead through the skin or body orifices. Risk of death  due to voltage U >= 30 V AC and U >= 60 V DC. No fires, sparks, open flames, or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing, and glasses. Pour battery acid only into suitable and appropriately marked containers. AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
WARNING Risk of injury.  Moving parts can pinch, crush or, in extreme cases even sever extremities. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area of mechanical components when moving components. AS00.00-Z-0009-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Perform disable for high-voltage on-board electrical system.   AR54.10-P-1150LW
2.1 Loosen left and right trunk lining until the screws (1) are accessible. Model 205.047/147 AR68.30-P-4600LW
2.2 Detach load compartment trim at left and right side in rear area until the screws (1) are accessible. Model 205.247 AR68.30-P-1180LWS
3 Confirm change of on-board electrical system battery (G1) using diagnosis system in signal acquisition and actuation module under Actuation menu item. When replacing the on-board electrical system battery (G1).  
REFER TO SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS   IMPORTANT This updates the charging characteristic for the on-board electrical system battery (G1) AD00.00-P-2000-04B
4 Disconnect the ground line for the on-board electrical system battery (G1).   AR54.10-P-0003LW 
5 Release and disconnect electrical connector (2).    
6 Remove nuts (3).    
7 Remove coolant pump (4) with connected electric lines and coolant hoses and place to one side.    
8 Remove screw (5). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, crash bar to crash bar bracket *BA64.20-P-1003-01H 
9 Remove bolts (1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, crash bar to longitudinal member *BA64.20-P-1002-01H 
10 Remove crash bracket (6).    
11 Unfasten nuts (7). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, crash strut to protective rail *BA64.20-P-1005-01H 
12 Remove bolts (8). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, crash bar bracket to crash strut *BA64.20-P-1004-01H 
13 Pull crash strut (9) in rear area upwards and fix in place using long wedge (10), as shown. SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 1
14 Remove screw (11). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, battery mounting rail to battery frame *BA54.10-P-1001-01A 
15 Remove mounting rail (12).    
16 Unclip positive line (13) from body.    
17 Disconnect vent hose (14) from on-board electrical system battery (G1). INSTALLATION NOTES Check that the vent hose (14) is correctly seated.
Otherwise, escaping battery vapors may damage the vehicle.
 
18 Lift on-board electrical system battery (G1) in area of previously-removed mounting rail (12), turn in direction of arrow and pull out under crash strut (9). NOTES When turning the on-board electrical system battery (G1), do not subject the electric line (15) and its connection to tension. They can be damaged otherwise.  
19 Unclip positive terminal cover (16).    
20 Disconnect positive line (13) from on-board electrical system battery (G1). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut, electrical line to negative terminal/positive terminal of on-board electrical system battery *BA54.10-P-1004-01A 
21 Remove on-board electrical system battery (G1) from vehicle. INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check bleed hose (17) is correctly seated.  
22 Install in the reverse order.
