Model 205
with code B07 (AMG - ceramic brake system)
Shown on model 223.063
3-piece, internally ventilated, drilled compound brake disk with ceramic friction ring and aluminum pan, valid for the front axle
One-piece, internally-ventilated, drilled and slit brake disk with cast iron friction ring, valid for the rear axle
Measurement on cast iron friction ring, shown on model 212, valid for rear axle
| Risk of injury. Skin or eye injuries may result when handling hot or glowing objects. | Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses, if necessary. | AS00.00-Z-0002-01A | |
| Risk of injury from engine start by remote start function | Prior to starting work, open engine hood, do not reach into rotation range or hazard area of freely rotating parts, wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes | AS00.00-Z-0024-01A | |

| Remove | |||
| 1 | Remove wheel and tire assemblies. | ||
| AR40.10-P-1102A | |||
| Check brake disks (1) on front axle | |||
| 2 | Check ceramic friction rings for contamination | ||
| Notice | Notes on handling, transport and storage of ceramic brake disks | If ceramic friction ring is contaminated by oil or grease, ↓ replace brake disk (1). |
AH42.10-P-9406-13A |
| 3 | Check ceramic friction rings for damage. | ||
If the brake disk (1) exhibits damage that makes replacement necessary, ↓ replace brake disk (1). |
AR42.10-P-0290-01RG | ||
| Risk of injury to skin and eyes from laser beams | Never look directly into the laser beam. Do not attempt to suppress natural reflex of closing the eyelids. Avoid direct skin contact with the laser beam. If damage to the eye is suspected, consult an eye specialist immediately. |
AS30.30-Z-0001-01A | |
| 4 | Check ceramic friction rings for wear. | ||
| If ceramic friction ring is worn, ↓ replace brake disk (1). |
AR42.10-P-0264-01RG | ||
| Check brake disks (1) on rear axle | |||
| 5 | Assess cast iron friction rings for score marks, cracks, corrosion and contamination (e.g. oil, grease). | If the crack length (2) ≥ 25 mm (0.98 Inch) or if it extends up to the inner or outer edge of the friction ring, if there are gaping cracks or score marks deeper than 0.5 mm (0.02 Inch), or where pitted corrosion is present, ↓ replace brake disks (1) per axle. |
|
| 6 | Assess cast iron friction rings for wear. | If deeply contoured ridging is present at the outer edge, ↓ replace brake disks (1) per axle. If, in exceptional cases, assessment of cast iron friction rings is not possible by means of a visual check, ↓ Measure brake disks (1), continue with operation step 7. |
|
| Measure | |||
| 7 | Measure cast iron friction rings using vernier caliper (010). | *BE42.10-P-1001-09U | |
If the wear limit has been exceeded or will be exceeded before the next brake pad change, ↓ replace brake disks (1) per axle. |
