Seat belt tensioner for 2nd seat row
Seat belt tensioner for 3rd seat row (vehicles with 3rd seat row)
Location
The front emergency tensioning retractor is integrated in the respective front belt retractor. The front seat belt retractors are at the B-pillar at the left and right sides of the vehicle.
The seat belt tensioner for 2nd seat row is integrated into the respective seat belt retractor in the 2nd seat row. The seat belt retractor in the 2nd seat row is located in the area of the C-pillar on the left and right side of the vehicle.
The seat belt tensioner for the 3rd seat row is integrated into the respective seat belt retractor in the 3rd seat row. The seat belt retractor in the 3rd seat row is located in the area of the D-pillar on the left and right side of the vehicle.
General
Shortly before an impact, the seat belt tensioners eliminate seat belt slack and prevent the seat belt's film reel effect. The close-fitting seat belt means that vehicle occupants are subjected to the deceleration forces acting on the body at an earlier stage.
Function requirement
- Circuit 15R on
Function
The seat belt is tightened either using the seat belt retractor or simultaneously using the seat belt buckle and the seat belt end fitting.
The seat belt force of the front seat belt tensioners can be adapted accordingly via the seat belt force limiters.
The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control unit actuates the seat belt tensioner squibs and seat belt force limiters directly.
Triggering criteria for seat belt tensioners:
- The seat belt tensioners always trigger in every detected crash configuration of the appropriate impact severity (front, side, rear end, rollover).
- The front seat belt tensioners are only triggered if the respective seat belt buckle is inserted.
- The rear seat belt tensioners - if, depending on the equipment installed, diagnosis-capable seat belt buckles are present - are only triggered if the seat belt buckle is inserted.
- The rear seat tensioners are always triggered if no diagnosis-capable seat belt buckles are installed.
