  Risk of death  when working on component parts and systems with U > = 30 V alternating voltage (AC) or U > = 60 V direct voltage (DC) Do not touch damaged or defective live component parts and lines or non-insulated electrical connections and lines. AS00.00-Z-0035-01A
WARNING Risk of poisoning  caused by inhaling overheated refrigerant vapors from an air conditioning system containing R134a. Risk of injury  to skin and eyes caused by contact with liquid R134a refrigerant and when working on pressurized parts Never perform welding work on or near a closed air conditioning system. No smoking or open flames. Wear safety glasses and protective gloves. Work only in well ventilated rooms.
Carry out repair work on the air conditioning system circuit only after the system has been evacuated.

REMOVING Remove     
1 Perform power disconnect of high-voltage on-board electrical system. Model 253.354/954 AR54.10-P-1150LVH

2 Discharge air conditioning system.   AR83.30-P-1760LW 
3 Remove engine cover (1).    
4 Remove engine air intake duct (2).    
5 Unhook coolant hose (3) from brackets and push to one side.    
6 Remove screw (4) and push coolant line (5) to one side.    
7 Disconnect electrical connection (6).    
8 Detach electrical connector (7).    
9 Remove screw and detach high-pressure line from electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) and seal openings. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2

10 Remove screw and detach low-pressure line from electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) and seal openings. SPECIAL TOOL Record plug Fig 2

11 Remove front engine compartment lining and center engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LW
12 Remove screw/bolt (8). Model 205 (except 205.053/054/253) with engine 274

13 Remove screws/bolts (9).    
14 Remove holder (10). Model 205 (except 205.053/054/253) with engine 274

15 Secure electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) against falling down and remove screw (11).    
16 Lower vehicle.    
17 Remove electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) from above from engine compartment. NOTES Carefully remove electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5).
Otherwise adjacent components may be damaged.
 
INSTALLING Install     
18 Insert electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) from above into engine compartment and secure against falling down. NOTES Carefully insert electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5).
Otherwise adjacent components may be damaged.
 
19 Raise vehicle.    
20 Position electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) and screw in screw (11). IMPORTANT Helper required.
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support

21 Attach bracket (10). Model 205 (except 205.053/054/253) with engine 274

22 Screw in screws (9). TORQUE SPECIFICATION Screw/bolt, refrigerant compressor to timing case/crankcase/engine support *BA83.55-P-1001-01M 
23 Screw in screw (8). Model 205 (except 205.053/054/253) with engine 274

24 Lower vehicle.    
25 Remove protective cover and replace sealing ring of low-pressure line.    
26 Attach low-pressure line to electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) and screw in screw. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant line to refrigerant compressor *BA83.30-P-1008-01Q 
27 Remove protective cover and replace sealing ring of high-pressure line.    
28 Attach high-pressure line to electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5) and screw in screw. TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, refrigerant line to refrigerant compressor *BA83.30-P-1008-01Q 
29 Check receiver drier for re-usability. If necessary,

Replace drier cartridge.

30 Install front engine compartment lining and center engine compartment lining.   AR61.20-P-1105LW
31 Connect electrical connector (7).    
32 Connect electrical connector (6).    
33 Screw in screw (4).    
34 Hook coolant hose (3) into brackets.    
35 Install engine air intake duct (2).    
36 Install engine cover (1).    
37 Fill air conditioning.   AR83.30-P-1760LW 
38 Perform initial startup of high voltage on-board electrical system. Model 205.047/147/247
with code ME06 (Hybrid drive 60 kW variant (incl. plugin))

39 Connect vehicle diagnosis system and perform break in of electric refrigerant compressor
(A9/5).
When replacing the electric refrigerant compressor (A9/5).
