Remove And Route Tension Cables Of Headliner - AR68.30-P-4303-01LWR
Model 205.4
Model 238.4
| 04.09.2019 | Method completely revised. |
Overview, shown on left side of vehicle
The location of the tensioning cables (1, 2, 3, 4, 7 and 8) is marked on mounting strip (14).
Remove as follows:
- Tensioning cable (1)
- Tensioning cable (2)
- Tensioning cables (4, 8)
- Tensioning cables (7, 3)
- Tensioning cables (5, 6)
- Tensioning cable (9)
Route in reverse order.
Always replace damaged tensioning cables on both sides of the vehicle, even if only one side is damaged.
To remove and route the tensioning cables (5, 6), set down soft top at front manually and lift soft top bow.
- Lay out nine auxiliary threads in different colors for each side of the vehicle.
The auxiliary threads must be at least 1 m long.
The removal/installation is described using the example of the tensioning cable (1) on one side of the vehicle. Use method for tensioning cables (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9) on both sides of vehicle.
- Slide clamping ring (11) out of mount.
- Remove clamping ring (11) from tensioning cable (1).
- Knock rivet (10) off of tensioning cable (1) on soft top mechanical components.
- Assign an auxiliary thread with the corresponding marking to the tensioning cable (1).
The color coding of the tensioning cables is located on the side of the mounting eye of the respective tensioning cable.
- Attach auxiliary thread at end of tensioning cable (1) in place of clamping ring (11).
- Attach other end of auxiliary thread to the mount of the clamping ring (11) on the mounting strip (14).
- Pull tensioning cable (1) out of eyelets while pulling in auxiliary thread at the same time.
- Cut off auxiliary thread, leaving an offcut on the tensioning cable (1).
The offcut of the auxiliary thread can be used to assign the corresponding color code to the tensioning cable (1).
- Attach drawn-in auxiliary thread such that it cannot slip back.
Do not actuate soft top mechanism.
Otherwise the auxiliary thread will be pulled out and it is no longer possible to retrace routing of the tensioning cable (1).
- Attach new tensioning cable (1) to auxiliary thread assigned by color on side of rivet (10).
- Pull auxiliary thread out of eyelets while pulling in tensioning cable (1) at the same time.
- Detach auxiliary thread from tensioning cable (1) and from mount for clamping ring (11) on mounting strip (14).
- Attach new clamping ring (11) to tensioning cable (1).
Dimensions:
a = 3 ± 1 mm
b = 3.75 ± 0.25 mm
- Attach tensioning cable (1) to soft top mechanical components with rivet (10).
Before riveting ensure that tensioning cable (1) is not twisted, crossed, or offers excessive resistance.
Otherwise the roof lining will be damaged when actuating the soft top mechanical components.
- Secure tensioning cables (4, 7) on right and left of soft top frame with fabric tape (13) as shown.
Dimensions:
c = approx. 10 mm
