IMPORTANT The ceramic brake disc cannot be visually inspected for wear.

A wear test can only be performed with the electronic measurement method or by evaluating the wear indicators using the test films (1).

  1. Check the inside and outside of the brake discs for damage.

IMPORTANT The following types of damage may occur: Chippings on the friction surfaces (A) Chippings on edge of brake disc ring (B) Chippings on perforation holes (C)

Chippings on the friction surfaces (A)

  2. Prepare test film (1) with dimensions 20 mm x 20 mm (400 mm2).
  3. Check chippings on friction surfaces (A) with test film (1).

IMPORTANT Chippings on the friction surfaces (A) can occur because of thermal stresses. Per brake disc, max. 3 chippings up to a size of 400 mm2 and a depth of max. 2 mm are permissible.

Chippings on edge of brake disc ring (B)

  4. Check chippings on edge of brake disc ring (B).

IMPORTANT Chippings on the edge of the brake disc ring (B) can occur because of thermal stresses or collisions. A maximum of 3 chippings of the following dimensions are permissible for each brake disc:

Length in circumferential direction max. 25 mm Width in direction of friction surface max. 8 mm Depth max. 3 mm

    Chippings on perforation holes (C)

  5. Check perforation holes (C) for possible chippings.

IMPORTANT Chippings on perforation holes (C) can occur because of thermal stresses. They are permissible up to a length, width and depth of 3 mm in each case.
