Do not open cooling system unless coolant temperature is below 90°C. Open cap slowly and release the overpressure. Do not pour coolant into beverage containers. Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
Potential risks
Risk of injury
When the engine is warm, the cooling system is pressurized. If the cooling system is opened suddenly, there is a risk of scalding from hot coolant which splashes out.
Risk of poisoning
If coolant is swallowed, this can result in symptoms of poisoning such as headaches, dizziness, stomach ache, respiratory paralysis, unconsciousness, vomiting and cramps.
Safety precautions/instructions
- Allow cooling system to cool down to a coolant temperature of less than 90°C.
- Open coolant cap slowly; in the case of a conventional coolant cap, turn it as far as the safety catch, and in the case of a screwed coolant cap, turn approx. 1/2 turn and release the overpressure.
- Wear protective gloves, protective clothing and safety glasses.
- Do not pour coolant into beverage containers.
First aid measures
- Rinse affected skin with large quantities of cold water and cover with sterile dressings.
- Drink plenty of water with medicinal charcoal additive.
