General
The activated standing/parking lights make the contours of the vehicle visible in darkness or conditions of poor visibility.
The standing/parking lights are operated via the exterior lighting switch.
The standing/parking lights are switched off at circuit 15 OFF depending on the energy status of the on-board electrical system battery.
Function
Actuate standing and parking lights
The exterior lighting control unit actuates the standing/parking lights in the lamp units at front and, where applicable, at rear on the vehicle independently or it requests actuation. This takes place depending on the version of the front lamp units (halogen headlamps or LED headlamps) and depending on the network architecture of the vehicle. The exterior lighting control unit is the central controller unit or the front central controller unit, depending on the vehicle equipment involved.
When the standing lights are switched on, the license plate lamps are also switched on. The switched on standing/parking lights are displayed in the instrument cluster.
The standing lights can also be switched on due to the low beams or daytime running lights (Japan version). When opening the driver's door (vehicle parked) the standing lights are switched off.
Vehicles with trailer hitch
The exterior lighting control unit requests actuation of the standing/parking lights on the trailer. The trailer recognition control unit implements this request.
If the surround lighting function is activated, this is then automatically switched on in darkness after switching off the engine. The standing lights remain on for the time configured in the system from the point at which the last door or the trunk lid or the liftgate was closed.
Lights on warning
If the vehicle is exited and the standing lights are still switched on (exterior lights switch in standing lights position), a message is shown on the instrument cluster. An acoustic warning also sounds.
