The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 222 and must be performed in the same way on the right side in the event of damage.
- Expose spot welds on outer rear wheel well (1) and drill with Ø 6.5 mm bit (area A).
- Expose spot weld on outer rear wheel well (1) and cut (area B).
- Mark separating point on outer rear wheel well (1) and cut (area C).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components behind can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
c = approx. 20 mm
- Expose spot welds on outer rear wheel well (1) and cut out (areas D1).

- Expose spot welds on outer rear wheel well (1) and cut out (area E).
- Heat outer rear wheel well (1) in cross-hatched areas (area H).
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Model 217.3 Model 222 except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) Heat outer rear wheel well (1) in crosshatched area with heat gun (area G).
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove outer rear wheel well (1).
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
