The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 222 and must be performed in the same way on the right side in the event of damage.
- Install outer rear wheel well (1), rear fender, tail lamp, seal, and lock striker and fit.
- Check and adjust gap dimensions.
- Fix outer rear wheel well (1) in place.
- Remove rear fender, tail lamp, seal, and lock striker.
- Drill rivet holes with a diameter of 6.7 mm in the outer rear wheel well (1) (areas A).
- Remove outer rear wheel well (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on outer rear wheel well (1) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.
- Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.
- Apply 2-component adhesive in crosshatched area on body (area H).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Model 217.3 Model 222 except code Z07 (B7 armoring on special protection version) Apply 2-component adhesive in crosshatched area on body (area G).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.
- Apply sealant to foam part in crosshatched area (area B).
- Install outer rear wheel well (1) and fix in place.
- Rivet outer rear wheel well (1) with a rivet with a diameter of 6.4 x 12 (area C).
- Rivet outer rear wheel well (1) with Ø 6.4x12 rivet (area D).
- Outer rear wheel well (1)

- Outer rear wheel well (1)
(area F).
- Install rear fender liner and mark position of missing weld studs on outer rear wheel well (1).
- Remove rear fender liner.
- Install weld stud using repair solution.
- Clean welding areas no longer accessible after installing rear fender with zinc dust paint.
