The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle on model 222 except CODE Z07 (Top protection) and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

- Install side longitudinal member panel (1), fit and fix in place.
- Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes in side longitudinal member panel (1).
- Remove side longitudinal member panel (1).
- Deburr rivet holes on side longitudinal member panel (1) and body on both sides.
- Remove drilling chips.

Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

Install side longitudinal member panel (1), fit and fix in place.

Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes in side longitudinal member panel (1) (area G2).

Remove side longitudinal member panel (1).

Deburr rivet holes on side longitudinal member panel (1) and body on both sides.

Remove drilling chips.
- Model 222.9
Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

Install side longitudinal member panel (1), fit and fix in place.
When the longitudinal member outer shell has been replaced.

Drill Ø 6.7 mm rivet holes in side longitudinal member panel (1) (area G-i).

Remove side longitudinal member panel (1).

Apply 2-component adhesive to body in crosshatched areas (areas A).
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces. Observe manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of adhesive.

- Rivet side longitudinal member panel (1) with 0 6.4x12 rivet (area D).

The new spot welds must be positioned at exactly the same position as the previous spot welds, because these areas were glued at the factory (areas C). Otherwise the required minimum strength of the weld joint is not ensured.

Inert gas weld in intervals and allow to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.
- Grind inert gas welds down flat.
- Clean weld joints.
- Solder surfaces on side longitudinal member panel (1) in area of inert gas welds with body solder and smooth.
- Remove solder residues.
