Install And Weld In B-Pillar - Ar63.20-P-1350-06CLW

Model 205.3 

IMPORTANT The following steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed analogously on the right side in the event of damage.

The superordinate service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.

  1. Install B-pillar (2) with portal straightener, fit, and fix in place.

    IMPORTANT Use spacers.

  2. Drill rivet hole on B-pillar (2) with Ø 0 6.7 mm bit (area A).
  3. Remove portal straightener and B-pillar (2).
  4. Deburr rivet hole on B-pillar (2) and on body on both sides.
  5. Remove drilling chips.

  6. Insert new foam part (5) with sealant.
  7. Apply sealant to foam part (5) in cross-hatched area (area B).
  8. Apply 2-component adhesive on body in cross-hatched areas (areas C).

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  9. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  10. Install B-pillar (2) with portal straightener and fix in place.

    IMPORTANT Use spacers.

  11. Rivet B-pillar (2) with a Ø 6.4x12 rivet (area D).
  12. B-pillar (2) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas E).
  13. B-pillar (2) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area F).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  14. Face-grind inert gas weld on B-pillar (2) (area F).

    IMPORTANT Grind down flat only on beaded areas and contact areas of rear fender.

  15. Clean weld joints that are no longer accessible after rear fender is installed, and coat with zinc dust paint.
  16. B-pillar (2) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas G).

  17. B-pillar (2) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area H).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  18. Install, fit, and fix in place inner roof frame (3).
  19. Drill rivet holes on inner roof frame (3) with a Ø 6.7 mm bit (areas J, K).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet hole from above through existing hole in body (area K).

  20. Remove inner roof frame (3).
  21. Deburr rivet holes on inner roof frame (3) and body on both sides.
  22. Remove drilling chips.
  23. Coat with zinc dust paint insides of those riveted joints that will not be bonded.

  24. Apply 2-component adhesive to body in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces and manufacturer's specifications for drying and processing time of 2-component adhesive.

  25. Install and fix in place the inner roof frame (3).
  26. Rivet inner roof frame (3) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivets from the outside (areas L, M, N).
  27. Inner roof frame (3) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas O).
  28. Inner roof frame (3) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (areas P, Q).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  29. Drill mounting support (4) with a Ø 8 mm bit (area R).

    IMPORTANT To prevent collision with riveted joint made previously.

  30. Install mounting support, fit, and fix in place (4).
  31. Drill rivet holes on mounting support (4) with a 0 6.7 mm bit (areas S, T, Z).

    IMPORTANT Drill rivet holes offset by approx. 5 mm in relation to standard joint in direction of vehicle outer side (areas T).

    Drill rivet holes from above through existing holes in body (areas Z).

  32. Remove mounting support (4).
  33. Drill rivet holes on mounting console (4) and deburr on body on both sides.
  34. Remove drilling chips.
  35. Coat insides of riveted joints with zinc dust paint.

  36. Rivet mounting support (4) with Ø 6.5x12.5 rivets (areas U, V).
  37. Rivet mounting support (4) with Ø 6.4 M6 rivets from the outside (areas W).

  38. Install roof frame paneling (6), fit, and fix in place.
  39. Roof frame paneling (6) POLARIZATION RESISTANCE SINGLE-ROW SPOT WELD (areas X).
  40. Roof frame paneling (6) SHIELDED GAS SEAM WELD (area Y).

    IMPORTANT Inert gas weld in intervals and allow welding area to cool down in between. Reduces heat distortion.

  41. Face-grind inert gas weld joints (area Y).

  42. Solder surfaces on roof frame paneling (6) with body solder and smoothen (area Y).

    IMPORTANT A basic body filler can also be used as an alternative to the restoration of the surfaces with body solder.

  43. Remove solder residues and grinding dust.
