Cut Off A-Pillar - Ar63.20-P-1100-01CLW

A-PILLAR REPAIR MATERIALS (Model 205.3)

IMPORTANT The next steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle and must be performed in the same way in the event of damage on the right side of the vehicle.

The safety information in the superordinate service document must be observed.

  1. Mark separating point on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut (areas A and B).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Dimensions:

    b = approx. 170 mm

    IMPORTANT Set separation point (area A) at bottom edge of roof frame.

  2. Expose spot welds on A-pillar paneling (5) and cut out (areas C).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds of the A-pillar paneling (5) and A-pillar reinforcement (6) must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  3. Heat A-pillar paneling (5) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  4. Remove A-pillar paneling (5).

  5. Mark separating point on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (area E).

    NOTES Do not cut too deeply.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Dimensions:

    e = approx. 50 mm

  6. Expose MIG solder seam on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut (area G).
  7. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut out (areas H).

    IMPORTANT Joint spot welds of the A-pillar reinforcement (6) and A-pillar inner panel (7) must be cut out through two panel thicknesses.

  8. Expose spot welds on A-pillar reinforcement (6) and cut out (areas J).

  9. Heat A-pillar reinforcement (6) in cross-hatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  10. Remove A-pillar reinforcement (6).

  11. Mark separating points on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut (areas M and N).

    NOTES Do not make the cuts too deep.

    Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.

    IMPORTANT Dimensions:

    m = approx. 40 mm

    n = approx. 40 mm

  12. Expose MIG solder seams on the A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut (areas O).
  13. Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (7) and cut out (areas P and Q).

    IMPORTANT Cut spot welds on inside (area Q).

  14. Expose spot welds on A-pillar inner panel (7) ad drill with Ø 6.5 mm (area R).
  15. Heat A-pillar inner panel (7) in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.

  16. Remove A-pillar inner panel (7).

  17. Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in crosshatched areas.

    IMPORTANT Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.

  18. Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
  19. Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges. onto connecting flanges that are no longer accessible after installing side roof paneling.

    NOTES Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas S).

    Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.

    IMPORTANT Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
