Two-way radio integration, general 

Two-way radio integration enables the radio data transceiver (A49/5) (accessories) to be connected to the vehicle electronics system.

The taxi driver can then easily communicate, e.g. with the taxi control room.

The two-way radio integration consists of the following subfunctions:

Additional function requirements for radio data transceiver 

IMPORTANT The instrument cluster sends the function status over the user interface CAN (CAN HMI), electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) and the interior CAN (CAN B) to the special-purpose vehicle multifunction control unit (N26/9).

Function sequence for switching radio data transceiver on and off 

With the radio data transceiver, which is located at the left behind the side trim in the trunk, a wireless connection can be made, e.g. to a taxi control room.

Operation takes place via the left multifunction steering wheel button group (S110) and the right multifunction steering wheel button group (S111) or via the controls on the head unit (A26/17).

The "OK" button on the head unit can be used to block operation using the head unit buttons.

The steering wheel electronics (N135) reads in the control signals from the multifunction steering wheel button groups directly and sends them over the steering LIN (LIN E1), steering column tube module control unit (N80), chassis FlexRay (Flex E), electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the multifunction control unit.

The head unit reads in the control signals of the buttons on the head unit directly and transmits these via user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN to the multifunction control unit.

The multifunction control unit receives the control signals, activates the radio data transceiver via the multifunction CAN (CAN K) and sends corresponding status information via the interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and the user interface CAN to the instrument cluster and to the head unit.

The two-way radio status information is displayed on the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster and in the Audio/COMAND® display (A40/8).

The head unit activates the Audio/COMAND® display via the TELEMATICS CAN (CAN A), and sends the picture signals for displaying in the Audio/COMAND® display via the low voltage differential signal (LVDS) line to the Audio/COMAND® display.

Alternatively, the radio data transceiver can also be activated upon unlocking the central locking (CL [ZV]) if taxi mode was not switched off beforehand. The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the signal to switch the radio data transceiver on or off via the interior CAN to the radio data transceiver.

The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status "CL [ZV] unlocked" via interior CAN to the multifunction control unit which then activates the radio data transceiver via multifunction CAN.

The radio data transceiver can be switched off by pressing the mute function button (S111s6) for longer than t = 10 s or by de-selecting the "Two-way radio" menu in the instrument cluster.

The steering wheel electronics reads in the control signals from the mute function button directly, and sends these via the steering LIN, steering column tube module control unit, chassis FlexRay, electronic ignition lock control unit and the interior CAN to the multifunction control unit.

The instrument cluster sends the status of the "Two-way radio" menu via user interface CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and interior CAN to the multifunction control unit.

Three beeps are emitted when the radio data transceiver is switched off. To do this, the instrument cluster actuates the instrument cluster speaker (H4/61) directly.

The multifunction display on the instrument cluster then shows the message "Load two-way radio with +".

IMPORTANT If the CL [ZV] is locked wirelessly, the multifunction control unit automatically switches off the radio data transceiver after the expiration of a programmable time (standard t = 30 min).

IMPORTANT If the radio data transceiver was manually switched off using the mute function button, it cannot then be activated by unlocking the CL [ZV] or by switching on circuit 15C. The radio data transceiver can only be activated by pressing the multifunction steering wheel button groups or the "+" button on the head unit or by triggering an emergency alarm with the radio help call.

Function sequence for fault detection 

The multifunction control unit constantly checks the status of the radio data transceiver. If the radio data transceiver does not answer 50 consecutive queries within the permissible period (e.g. because of an internal overload), the radio data transceiver is disconnected from the power supply for approx. t = 5 s. The radio data transceiver is returned to a functioning state by means of this "power-off reset". A "Power-off reset" is signaled by the instrument cluster speaker with five beeps. The multifunction control unit ends any dialogs with the instrument cluster that are still open. After approx. t = 5 s, the radio data transceiver is supplied with voltage again and receives status queries again.

The multifunction control unit sends the Two-way radio status information via interior CAN, electronic ignition lock control unit and user interface CAN to the instrument cluster.

The instrument cluster directly actuates the instrument cluster speaker.
