The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating point on reinforcement (2) and cut (area A).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
a1 = approx. 30 mm
a2 = approx. 45 mm
- Expose spot welds on reinforcement (2) and cut out (areas B).
- Remove reinforcement(2).
- Mark separating point on inner C-pillar side wall (1) and cut (area C).
Do not cut too deeply.
Otherwise the components behind can be damaged and weakened.
Dimensions:
c1 = approx. 85 mm
c2 = approx. 90 mm
- Expose spot welds on inner C-pillar side wall (1) and cut off (areas D).
- Heat inner C-pillar side wall (1) in cross-hatched area.
Cross-hatched area is bonded.
- Remove inner C-pillar side wall (1)
- Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Coat insides of spot weld flanges with zinc dust paint.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (area E).
Otherwise adhesion problems may occur.
Observe preliminary treatment of bonding surface.
