The following operation steps are shown on the left side of the vehicle. In case of damage on the right side of the vehicle, these steps must be performed analogously.
The higher-level service document as well as the safety information in the service document must be observed.
- Mark separating points on rear fender (1) and cut (areas A and B).
Do not make the cuts too deep.
Otherwise the components below can be damaged and weakened.
Mark separating point along Y-markings (area B).
The Y-marking is designed as a half-round disengagement shift tube in the are of the side window.
Dimensions :
a = approx. 430 mm
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas C1 , C2 , D1 , D2 and E).
- Separate adhesive bead between outer rear wheel well and rear fender (1) (area D3
).
The rear fender is bonded to the outer rear wheel well (1).
- Expose spot welds on rear fender (1) and cut out (areas F1
, F2
, F3
).
- Heat rear fender (1) in cross-hatched areas.
Cross-hatched areas are bonded with adhesive.
- Remove rear fender (1).
- Remove remaining adhesive in area of outer rear wheel well.
The height of the remaining adhesive should be max. 2 mm.
Always remove loose adhesive.
- Repair bare spots in area of outer rear wheel well with primer stick (area G2 ).
- Sand down mating surfaces to bare metal in cross-hatched areas.
Grind mating surfaces down to bare metal on insides.
Sand down spot weld flanges to bare metal on both sides.
- Remove grinding dust and drill chips.
- Apply zinc dust paint to insides of spot weld flanges, parts kit.
Do not coat bonding surfaces with zinc dust paint (areas G1 and G2 ).
Otherwise adhesion problems can occur.
Observe pretreatment of bonding surfaces.
