Remove/Install Rear Spoiler - AR72.20-P-4000MFA

DANGER Risk of fire and explosion  caused by ignition of window washing fluid or antifreeze and their vapors. Risk of poisoning  caused by swallowing window washing fluid or antifreeze or inhaling their vapors. Risk of injury  or physical irritations caused by contact of window washing fluid or antifreeze with eyes, mucous membranes or skin. Wear protective clothing and tight-fitting safety glasses. No open flames, fire or ignition sources. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and skin. When working with window washing fluids or antifreeze, do not eat, drink, or smoke. Do not inhale vapors and ensure sufficient ventilation in the working area. Store window washing fluid and antifreeze leakfree in safely closed original containers and out of the reach of children. CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by scraping or cutting body parts on sharp vehicle parts Always wear protective gloves when working on or near sharp and non-deburred vehicle parts.
Deburr repair panels.

CAUTION Risk of injury  caused by fingers being jammed or pinched when removing, installing or aligning hoods, doors, trunk lid/ Rear-end door or sliding roof. No parts of the body or limbs should be within the operating area when the components are moving. AS00.00-Z-0011-01A

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
1 Switch off ignition and store transmitter key outside of transmitter range (min. 2 m).    
2 Remove upper liftgate trim.   AR72.20-P-6631MFA 
3 Release and disconnect electrical connectors (2) and wash water hose coupling (3). IMPORTANT The number of electrical connectors (2) varies depending on the vehicle equipment.  
4 Remove nuts (4). INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace nuts (4).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt/nut, Rear spoiler to tailgate *BA72.20-P-1005-02I 
5 Unclip center Rear spoiler (1) from the liftgate and remove. IMPORTANT Do not damage the paint surface.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clips (8).
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 1
6 Clean bonding surfaces. NOTES
Bonding surface should be free of grease and dust.
Otherwise, adhesion problems will occur.
IMPORTANT The center Rear spoiler (1) is fixed in place with adhesive strips in addition.
 
    Cleaner
When the center Rear spoiler (1) is reused:

Replace adhesive strips.

7 Removing the Rear wing. When installing a new center Rear spoiler (1).  
    Model 177.0, 247.7
with code 772 (AMG styling - Front spoiler, side skirts)
with code B26 (AMG Aerodynamics package)

8 Remove spray nozzle (5). When installing a new center Rear spoiler (1).  
9 Remove center brake lamp (E21). When installing a new center Rear spoiler (1).

  Remove/install side Rear spoilers (9)     
10 Unclip left or right side Rear spoiler (9) and remove. NOTESRemoval: 
Do not pry over the Rear window.
Otherwise, there is a risk that the Rear window may break.
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Replace retaining clips (10).
 
    SPECIAL TOOL Long wedge Fig 1
INSPECT Check     
11 Check seals at center Rear spoiler (1) for damage. If damage is present:

Replace center Rear spoiler (1).
 
12 Check seals at side Rear spoiler (9) on left and or right for damage. If damage is present:

Replace side Rear spoiler (9) on left and/or right.
 
13 Check guides (11) at side Rear spoiler (9) on left and/or right for damage. If damage is present:

Replace side Rear spoiler (9) on left and/or right.
 
14 Install in the reverse order.
