Note On Calculation Of Tightening Torque When Using Insertion Or Socket Tools With Various Effective Lengths - AH00.00-P-0015-01CW

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2023 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC300, 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC350e, and 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLC300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

Model all (4xWD, CAR, Heavy transporter, Light transporter, smart)

IMPORTANT The working length of the insertion tool (2) or attachment tool (4) plugged onto the torque wrench (1) changes the leverage of the torque wrench (1). This in turn alters the actual tightening torque.

Therefore the tightening torque to be set (MDE) has to be calculated as a function of the working length of the insertion tool (2) or attachment tool (4) and the prescribed tightening torque (MDV).

The following formula is used to calculate the tightening torque (MDE) to be set:

MDE = [MDV x (b+c)]: (b+d)

b Effective length of torque wrench

c Internal caliper of adjusting tool

d Internal caliper of insertion tool

MDE Tightening torque to be set

MDV Prescribed tightening torque
