Oil Supply For 4Matic Transfer Case Function - GF28.55-P-3010AVL

Function requirements, general 

Oil supply in general 

The oil supply system ensures that the components of the transfer case are sufficiently greased and cooled.

The transfer case and the automatic transmission have separate oil systems.

On vehicles up to model year 2019, the oil supply is designed as a pure splash oil supply.

On vehicles as of model year 2019, an oil pump (6) is bolted to the outside of the transfer case housing. The oil pump (6) pumps the oil from the lower chamber in the rear section of housing upward via an oil duct. The oil flows from above into the transfer case, lubricates and cools all moving parts and then collects again at the bottom.

Tank compartment (B) and the front axle transmission output compartment and pump intake compartment (A) are connected to each other via oil holes. When the vehicle is stationary, the oil level is identical in both of these compartments.

The oil from the front axle transmission output compartment and pump intake compartment (A) is delivered to the transmission oil heat exchanger where the oil is then cooled. The oil flows via the inlet out of the transmission oil heat exchanger (cold) (7) and via the connection of the front axle transmission output compartment and pump intake compartment (5) into the front axle transmission output compartment and pump intake compartment (A). The oil flows via the tank compartment connection (warm) (3) into the oil supply reservoir (settled) (C) and then further to the multiplate clutch oil inlet (warm) (4) and cools the multiplate clutch.

The oil flow to the multiplate clutch is controlled by the cover (8). The oil is directed through the open cover (8) and flows to the multiplate clutch so that this is cooled.
