Front axle transmission 4MATIC, general
The front axle transmission is designed as a single-speed differential (4) with fuel-efficient technology (fuel economy). The housing of the front axle transmission is made of aluminum and bolted to the oil pan of the engine by means of front axle transmission carrier (7). The drive pinion (2) is positioned at an angle of 83° to the crown gear (3), to adjust the course of the propeller shaft to the front axle differential. The ring gear (3) is attached on the engine side and bolted to the differential housing of the differential (4). This location of components of the front axle transmission causes the change in direction of rotation, which occurs due to the single-speed front axle transmission output in the transfer case, to reverse again.
