Purpose:
Charger for charging and recharging starter batteries without disconnection from the on-board electrical system.
Procurement information:
This criteria catalog is intended as an aid for selecting one of the commercially available variants of a workshop equipment item. It merely describes the minimum requirements for fulfilling the Mercedes-Benz standard. No reference is therefore made to manufacturer-specific equipment or items.
NOTE:
A distinction is made between 3 power categories depending on the use case:
- For trickle charge: At least 16 A charging current
- For quick charge, backup function: At least 30 A charging current
- For flash/buffer operation: At least 80 A charging current Mercedes-Benz lithium ion batteries can also be charged using the specified chargers. Special lithium-ion chargers are not necessary. Observe the specifications in the pertinent repair documents and service information!
Minimum requirements:
- Short circuit resistance
- Protection against polarity reversal
- Voltage-free connection
- Automatic fault detection (loss of contact)
- Charge indicator
- Charging of wet, AGM (VRLA), gel, lithium-ion batteries
