The following operation steps describe installation in a left-hand drive vehicle. The work procedure may differ for right-hand drive vehicles.

1. Remove white connector socket housing (16.3) from black, 12-pin connector housing (16.2).
2. Remove gray line (GY) and yellow line (YE) from black, 12-pin connector socket (16.2).

   The black, 12-pin connector socket (16.2) is no longer required.

3. Remove red/black line (RD/BK) from curry-colored 12-pin connector socket (17).

   The curry-colored 12-pin connector socket (17) is not required.

4. Connect white, 4-pin connector socket (16.1) of additional fan wiring harness (16) with white, 4-pin connector (14.1).

   The white, 4-pin connector socket (16.1) and the white, 4-pin connector (14.1) form the electrical connection for the external fan, Audio/COMAND® display (X120/1).

5. Route brown line (BN) of additional fan wiring harness, starting from white, 4-pin connector socket (16.1), to center console ground point (W12).
6. Cut off excess length of brown line (BN) and fit a commercially available round cable lug.

   The crimper is included in the basic wiring harness repair set and the passenger car supplementary wiring harness repair set.

7. Connect brown line (BN) to center console ground point (W12) .

8. Route gray line (GY) and yellow line (YE) of additional fan wiring harness, starting from white, 4-pin connector housing (16.1), to device installation frame for the audio component.
9. Remove black, 12-pin connector socket (18) from black, 44-pin connector socket housing (19) of vehicle wiring harness.
10. Install gray line (GY) into contact cavity 1  , of black, 12-pin connector socket (18).
11. Install yellow line (YE) into contact cavity 8  , of black, 12-pin connector socket (18).
12. Install black, 12-pin connector socket (18) into black, 44-pin connector socket housing (19) of vehicle wiring harness.
13. Strap down extended lengths of gray line (GY) and yellow line (YE) and fix in place using cable ties.

14. Route red/black line (RD/BK) of additional fan wiring harness, starting from white, 4-pin connector socket (16.1), along existing wiring harnesses into front, left footwell and fix in place using cable ties.
15. Route red/black line (RD/BK) through cable duct into engine compartment to front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module.

    Use a pull-through device.

16. Remove curry-colored, 12-pin connector socket (20) from front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
17. Install red/black line (RD/BK) into contact cavity 5  of curry-colored, 12-pin connector socket (20).
18. Install curry-colored, 12-pin connector socket (20) into front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).
19. Fix red/black line (RD/BK) with insulation tape to given lines.

20. Check fuse assignment of front SAM control unit with fuse and relay module (N10/1).

    Fuse assignment:

    Fuse 16 = 7.5 A (arrow D)

    Insofar as no or only one fuse with an incorrect fuse rating is inserted.

    ↓

    Insert fuse with correct fuse rating.
