Manual interior lights control in general
The manual interior lights control is used to switch the interior illumination, the reading lamps, the mirror lamps (with code 876 (Interior lights package)) as well as the glove compartment illumination on and off.
The manual interior lights control function encompasses the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence for interior illumination
- Function sequence for reading illumination
- Function sequence for mirror lamp actuation (with code 876 (Interior lights package))
- Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
Function sequence for interior illumination
The interior illumination is switched on or off by operating the interior lamp automatic function switch.
The interior lamp automatic function switch is located on the overhead control panel control unit.
The front SAM control unit reads in the corresponding request via wiper/inside rearview mirror LIN and sends it back to the overhead control panel control unit.
The following components are then switched on or off:
- By the overhead control panel control unit:
- Left A-pillar exit lamp (with code 876 (Interior lights package))
- Right A-pillar exit lamp (with code 876 (Interior lights package))
- Left interior/reading lamp
- Right interior/reading lamp
- By the front SAM control unit:
- Right footwell lamp (with code 876 (Interior lights package) or as of 01.03.2016 with code 877 (Ambiance illumination))
- Left footwell lamp (with code 876 (Interior lights package) or as of 01.03.2016 with code 877 (Ambiance illumination))
In vehicles with code 877 (Ambiance illumination), the front SAM control unit also sends the Ambiance illumination ON" request via interior CAN to the door control units.
The following ambiance illumination components are then switched on or off:
- By the front SAM control unit:
- Left front center console ambiance illumination
- Left rear center console ambiance illumination
- Right front center console ambiance illumination
- Right rear center console ambiance illumination
- By the left door control unit:
- Left door handle ambiance illumination
- Front trim piece ambiance illumination, left door
- Rear trim piece ambiance illumination, left door
- By the right door control unit:
- Right door handle ambiance illumination
- Front trim piece ambiance illumination, right door
- Rear trim piece ambiance illumination, right door
Function sequence for reading illumination
The reading illumination serves to illuminate a defined area in front of the user, without having a distracting dazzling effect on the driver. The following reading lamp components can be switched on or off manually by operating the reading lamp switches:
- Left interior/reading lamp via the left front reading lamp switch
- Right interior/reading lamp via the right front reading lamp switch
Function sequence for mirror lamp actuation (with code 876 (Interior lights package))
The following mirror lamp components can be manually switched on or off by opening or closing the corresponding mirror covers:
- Left sun visor mirror lamp via the left front mirror lamp switch
- Right sun visor mirror lamp over the right front mirror lamp switch
The power supply of the mirror lamps is switched off by folding the sun visor closed or by locking the vehicle.
To preserve the on-board electrical system battery (G1), the power supply is interrupted t = 30 min. following circuit 15 OFF.
Additional function requirements for glove compartment illumination
- Circuit 15R ON
The electronic ignition lock control unit sends the status of circuit 15 to the front SAM control unit via interior CAN.
Function sequence for glove compartment illumination
The glove compartment lamp switch is supplied with voltage by the front SAM control unit. Voltage is switched through to the glove compartment lamp by opening the glove compartment door.
