Exterior Lights Function - GF82.10-P-0003RD
Model 172.4 up to model year 2017
Vehicles except CODE 615 (Bi-xenon headlamp with active curve lights) and except CODE 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)) and except CODE 622 (Intelligent Light System)
Vehicles with CODE 615 (Bi-xenon headlamps with active curve lights) or CODE 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)) or CODE 622 (Intelligent Light System)
Function requirements, general
- Terminal 30 ON
Exterior lights (ABL), general
The exterior lights control all the safety and comfort-relevant functions of the front, side and rear lights of the vehicle.
The exterior lights system includes the following subfunctions:
- Function sequence, on-board network increase
- Function sequence for switching off the exterior lights
Further subfunctions are described in separate documents:
- Standing/parking lights actuation function
- Headlamp control function
- Intelligent Light System, function (with code 615 (Bi-xenon headlamps with active curve lights) or code 621 (Intelligent Light System (left-hand traffic)) or 622 (Intelligent Light System))
- Adaptive High Beam Assist, function (with CODE 608 (Adaptive High Beam Assist))
- Front fog light actuation, function
- Turn signal light actuation function
- Brake lights actuation function
- Backup light actuation function
- Headlight switch off delay function
- Substitute lights/emergency light control function
Function sequence, on-board network increase
When the on-board electrical system voltage is decreased by the energy management below the minimum voltage of a light function during normal driving operation, the front SAM control unit can suppress shutoff of the corresponding light function with the aid of the on-board electrical system increase. To do so, the front SAM control unit requests the minimum voltage required for the corresponding light function. The light functions for which the on-board electrical system increase is activated can be defined at the end of production.
The following functions can be coded:
- Actuation of low beams in dark
- High-beams actuation
- Turn signal light actuation
- Backup light actuation
- Rear fog lights actuation
Function sequence for switching off the exterior lights
By switching off the exterior lights, the on-board electrical system load by the active standing or parking lights actuation is reduced.
Discharge of the on-board electrical system battery (G1) is prevented.
The low beams may be switched on due to the auto on/off driving lights, the daytime running lights or manually via the exterior lights switch. A prerequisite for this is that the status of circuit 15 is On.
If circuit 15 is Off, the low beams are switched off.
The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off driving lights or manually via the exterior lights switch. If the standing lights have been switched on manually (exterior lights switch to the "Standing lights" position), the standing lights are not switched off.
If the standing lights have been activated because of the manually activated low beams, auto on/off driving lights or daytime running lights and the driver door is opened with the status circuit 15C On, the standing lights are switched off.
If the "Ambient illumination" function is activated via the instrument cluster, it automatically switches itself on when the engine is turned off. The low beams and the standing lights remain switched on for a fixed time interval of t = 60 s.
The ambient illumination function is described in the headlamp switch-off delay (SWA) subfunction.
