Remove/install COMAND controller unit - AR82.85-P-1100RK

REMOVINGINSTALLING Remove/install     
NOTES Information on preventing damage to electronic components due to electrostatic discharge All models AH54.00-P-0001-01A
1 Connect STAR DIAGNOSIS and buffer basic data of COMAND controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT Only when replacing the COMAND controller unit (A40/3).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Transfer temporarily stored basic data to the new COMAND controller unit (A40/3).

2 Switch off all electrical consumers, switch off ignition and remove transmitter key (A8/1) or KEYLESS-GO start-stop button (S2/3) from electronic ignition lock control unit (N73) IMPORTANT KEYLESS-GO start-stop button (S2/3) only with code (889) KEYLESS-GO.  
3 Unclip lower instrument cluster paneling (1)    
4 Unclip steering column tube module trim (1) from instrument panel (2) and push toward rear    
5 Remove left and right trim (3) from center console IMPORTANT Unclip left and right trim (3) starting at rear up to height of electronic selector lever module control unit (N15/5) (arrow A), and pull out of instrument panel (4).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Check that retaining lugs (5) are correctly seated in instrument panel (4).

6 Remove bolts (6)    
7 Remove screw (7) and remove bracket (8) IMPORTANT Note the installation position of the bracket (8).  
8 Remove cover (9) IMPORTANT Release cover (9) at the bottom and swivel in direction of arrow (arrow B) far enough until it is released at the top and can be removed to the rear (arrow C).
To swivel out, lift up the lid (10) of the ashtray slightly to avoid any damage to the lid (10).
 
9 Pull cover (9) far enough to rear to gain access to the electrical connectors (11)    
10 Disconnect electrical connectors (11)    
11 Loosen screw/bolts (12) IMPORTANT Loosen screws/bolts (12) far enough to enable the release catches (13) to be operated.  
12 Release COMAND controller unit (A40/3) IMPORTANT To do so, open release catches (13) in direction of arrow (arrow D).
INSTALLATION IMPORTANT Before installation of the COMAND controller unit (A40/3) push release catches (13) all the way up until they engage in the latches (arrow E).
 
13 Disconnect electrical connector (14) and pull COMAND controller unit (A40/3) out of instrument panel (4) IMPORTANT Only pull out far enough until the electrical connectors and the optical fiber connector on the rear of the device can be accessed.  
14 Disconnect electrical connectors and optical fiber connector from rear of COMAND controller unit (A40/3) and remove COMAND controller unit (A40/3)    
NOTES Notes on avoiding damage to optical fibers during repair work With Media Oriented System Transport (MOST) AH82.60-P-0001-05AK
15 Remove upper control panel control unit. IMPORTANT Only when replacing the COMAND controller unit (A40/3). AR54.21-P-1262RK
16 Install in the reverse order
